Signs

Human hair and metal, 220 x 40 x 40 cm. 2025

A European Union flag woven from hair collected from displaced individuals. Over the course of the exhibition, the hair loosens and falls, progressively undoing the flag. By the closing, what remains is a mass of hair on the floor.

The flag does not need to be intact to function as a symbol. The work uses that dependency against itself: the progressive loss of material is not deterioration but the piece’s actual duration. What the symbol cannot hold accumulates below it.

"Signs", sculpture by Andrés Felipe Castaño using human hair and metal to critique displacement and systemic exclusion in contemporary art.
