Real/Unreal

Full HD Video, 5min23sec.2016

This video bridges the aesthetic of video games with documentary footage. Shot in iconic locations in Kampala, Uganda—such as Idi Amin’s Palace or the National Mosque—it questions how representations of dictatorship and violence become entertainment in virtual contexts.

The staging simulates a third-person video game experience, challenging the ethics of the gaze, narrative control, and the blurred boundaries between real and fictional in postcolonial settings.
