Two workers strike the rusted tracks of Costa Rica’s decommissioned national railway with machetes, playing the Chiquita Banana jingle note by note. The railway was built under banana company concessions and later abandoned as the industry reorganized, while the jingle — designed to render extraction familiar — persisted beyond the infrastructure it once accompanied.
The action lasts 1 minute and 59 seconds, the duration of the jingle performed at the tempo achievable with agricultural tools on metal. The workers perform it to completion.
Work done during the artistic residency at TEOR/ética San José, Costa Rica.
