Development concept

Full HD video, 1min59sec. 2015

Two workers strike rusted Costa Rican railroad tracks with machetes, playing the melody of the Chiquita Banana jingle.

The poetic action turns into critique, contrasting the abandonment of public infrastructure with the enduring symbolism of a transnational brand. The piece offers an ironic take on the idea of “progress,” revealing how economic development perpetuates extractivist and colonial logics in Latin America.

Work done during the artistic residency at TEOR/ética San José, Costa Rica.
